Our current topics:
Reading: Each day we do reading workshop. Students choose 4 "choice times", which include guided reading with the teacher, listen to reading,, work on writing, word work, read to someone, and read to self. We read both fiction and non-fiction to practice our fluency and comprehension skills. We practice phonics and grammar as well. Writing: We are working on conducting research and using the facts gained to write an informational report. We will research the rain forest as a whole class. Students will then have the opportunity to choose their own animal to research for their animal reports. Read Aloud: Our current read aloud book is Double Fudge. Math: Each day we begin with a warm-up activity called Elite 8. Students practice 8 "power standards" throughout the week that are based on both 2nd and 3rd grade skills. I am hoping this will give them an advantage when going into 3rd grade! Every other week they complete a progress monitoring test (PMT) and graph their results to see their progress! We are nearing completion of our subtraction with regrouping unit. We will then move on to money. Science/Social Studies: Our current science unit covers the investigation of properties of matter. In social studies, we will learn about the characteristics of communities. |
