Snack
We have snack each morning. Students are encouraged to bring their own snack; however if they don't have one for the day we often have extras leftover from our breakfast. If you would ever like to donate snack, we have 26 students. Due to food allergies, please avoid peanuts and tree nuts. Thank you!

Homework
In your child's classroom this year, I am not assigning nightly homework. Developmentally, your child should spend approximately 20 minutes on homework each evening. I encourage you to spend this time on reading and practicing basic math facts! (I will also send homework pages home from our math workbooks in case you would like to use these for additional practice). I ask that you initial your child's planner page stating that nightly reading and math fact/skills practice were completed. I will then give your child credit for completing homework. Contact me if you need books at home for your child to read. Please see the websites tab to find additional activities at home that support reading and math!

Attendance/Absent Work Policy
If your child is absent, I often work with him/her in class one on one to reteach any missed concepts and make up missed assignments. There may be times, however, where I will send home the missing assignments. Please take 1 day for each day absent to complete the work (i.e. if your child misses 2 days, take 2 days at home to complete the work). If you ever need more time, please let me know. I understand that life and schedules are busy!

Planners/Homework Logs
Your child will be given a planner page at the beginning of the week. Each day, he or she will write down our tasks and classroom reminders. I will also sign the planner with their behavior/clip color so that you know how your child did for that day. The planner page is meant to keep you informed of our academic topics and behavior. There is also a section where you can indicate that your child completed reading and math fact practice at home. Please read your child’s planner and sign or initial it. Also, this is a great way for you to communicate with me. Feel free to write notes to me on your child’s planner. Since I am encouraging responsibility and leadership skills in 2nd grade, I ask that your child bring his/her signed planner to school every day.

Daily Communication Folders
Your child will bring home a folder each day. It will contain your child's planner page and other important information such as completed work from class, community programs, permissions slips, book orders, and lunch calendars. There will also be a paper with all your child's computer log-in information. Please look over these papers and return the folder and any necessary papers to school each day.

Book Orders
I will send home Scholastic Book Order Forms periodically throughout the school year. This is a wonderful opportunity to purchase books at a great price. They often have books for only $1.00! You can send in cash or a check (made payable to Scholastic Book Clubs) by the deadline date on the order form. If you prefer, you may pay by credit or debit card. Your credit or debit card will be charged through the website and your child’s books will be sent to school with the rest of the classroom order.
You may also order books at any time through the year when you pay by credit or debit card. Here are instructions:
